Is there any way to improve the tone of our national discourse, to alleviate the rancor that's gripping our politics and society? Voters believe the answer is simple-listen first. A recent poll of North Carolina voters by Listen First Project, founded by a Duke graduate, found that 57 percent believe that "if people with different viewpoints listened to and considered the other side first" it would make a "major" or "huge impact" on our politics and society.

EPA approves new weed killer for engineered crops

The Environmental Protection Agency has approved a new version of a popular weed killer to be used on genetically modified corn and soybeans. The EPA said Wednesday that it will allow the use of a 2,4-D weed killer called Enlist Duo, a new version of the popular herbicide used since the 1940s.

Thanks to the Supreme Court, the new Texas voter ID law was in effect when early voting began in the 2014 midterm. The court upheld the Fifth Circuit's stay pending appeal of an October 11, 2014 District Court injunction barring implementation of the law's voter ID provisions.
