2 men face murder charges in shooting of 9-month-old boy

Police say two men have been arrested after a 9-month-old boy was fatally shot inside a Mississippi home. The Clarion-Ledger reports Grenada police said in a statement that Rashan Riley was shot in the head Monday around 1:40 p.m. Police say it was "a result of someone shooting at another individual or individuals in the neighborhood."
1,500 symbols of the Confederacy in the US

Centered in the Deep South but stretching from California to Massachusetts, roughly 1,500 Confederate symbols still exist on public land more than 150 years after the conclusion of the Civil War. Roughly half of those symbols -- 718 of them as of last year -- are monuments and statues.

On Aug. 17, 1807, Robert Fulton's North River Steamboat began heading up the Hudson River on its successful round trip between New York City and Albany, N.Y. In 1863, Federal batteries and ships began bombarding Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor during the Civil War, but the Confederates managed to hold on despite several days of pounding. In 1915, a mob in Cobb County, Ga., lynched Jewish businessman Leo Frank, 31, whose death sentence for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan had been commuted to life imprisonment.

Nothing ground-breaking in their analysis, but they point out that the flexbone isn't an offense that UT has even had to think about before. I also appreciate that they present both sides of the argument that "extra time helps stop the option."
